My experience has been that focusing with a loup is more precise because you can determine the depth of field that way, something the rangefinder will never reveal. That is especially true if, as I understand your problem, you will be shooting close-ups. Also, framing will be more accurate too, since, at close distances, you can't rely on the viewfinder.
