Here's a quote from Graphic Graflex Photography 11 ed., 1958
p228:
"The Graflex Speed Tripod...Also has a control for lateral tilt
with positvive locking on both right and left sides for final
leveling of the camera on uneven ground or for special effects. A
unique feature is the Guide-On adapter, a small plate fitting into
a recess in the tripod top. If desired, this plate can be faastened
permanently to the tripod socket of the cameras. With this in place
the camera can be very quickly attached to the tripod, merely by
sliding the adapter plate into the recess in the tripod top, and
locking it in place with the large locking disk provided on the
shaft of the tripod lock screw. This screw is also long enoguh to
fit directly up into the triopd socket of most cameras in the event
that the Guide-On adapter is not used. Other features include an
attractive blue annodized finish and a strap to hold the legs
together when the tripod is carried."
