I"ve seen the wrap around part with an RH 10/RH20 designation, so they are compatable....BUT!
the way you get twice as much film onto a roll is that you elimiate the paper backing that is on the 120 back. To keep the film flat 220 inserts have a thinner space than the 120 inserts, which could explain why it was hard to advance. Alternately you could run 220 thorugh a 120 insert, except you'd never know what frame you are on and the film would be sloppy in the slots.
You are correct in the loading procedures.
The rollers to keep the film flat are located on the wrap around part and should be just inside the frame. If they aren't you could have a flatness problem.
If the rollers are there, then it will be a good 220 back. 220 doesn't save you anything except reloading--most Kodak 220 films are 2x 120 prices.
If not maybe it's time to either return, resell or find a 120 insert.
