I have had similar experiences with unknown substances that
showed the cobwebby appearance of a fungus, but came off completely
when a little lens cleaning fluid was applied. I have guessed that
they are caused by vaporization and re-deposition of some part of
the lubricant used in the diaphragm, focusing mount or shutter, but
they could also be vaporizing from the black finishes used inside
lenses.
The key factor is whether they can be removed without damage to
the underlying glass surface. In your case, the answer is
apparently "yes", so not a problem! RKS
