I recently purchased a Graphic View in near-pristine condition, with a Graflex Optar 203mm lens. This has an interesting slider on the shutter having to do with flash. There are 4 settings on it: Off, F-X, M (in red), and M, (in black). I suspect these have meaning similar to the Ilex Acme Synchro Shutter described in a doc on this site.

Does anyone know exactly what these do, and especially, what setting I would use with strobes?

Thanks All!

Take a close look at the shutter speeds. Notice some are in red and some are in black.

Black speeds to black M, red speeds to red M

There are two classes of bulbs, the vast majority are M class with a 20 milisecond delay. Some are F class with a 5 milisecond delay (these are so bloody expensive you'll never use one if you buy it)
X is no delay for electronic flash

Off I expect is there to get you into trouble as in "why didn't my flash go off ?!"

Many thanks! You are correct, I did discover Off prevents the flash - very irritating!

Folks, the "off" position allows you to have the flash ready to go if you need it...but switch it on and off as the need presents itself. With electronic flash, even though you turn the flash unit off, it can retain a charge enough for two or three more flashes. If you don't want flash fill, for example, turn the shutter sync select to off to be sure it doesn't flash. Nice feature. Fred.
