I just got a 4X5 pre-anniversary speed and was wondering what year it was made. It is serial number 101084. |

oops; I goofed. It is a top handle speed, not a pre-anniversary. Small lensboard, gray painted hardware, pop-up glass viewfinder and no sportsfinder. The serial number given is correct. |

I just inherited about 50 cameras, including a super speed graphic. SN 646731. What year would this be? There are various graphic film, Poloroid film holder 500, film holders, film pack adaptors, and other parts I haven't been able to find on this site. Is there any way of including pictures in a post? |

Joe,
You'll have to have your photos on a server or host some place then use either a HTML or BB code tag to the photo.
Run the rail of the Super out until the first cross bar is past the bed and lock. Look on the bottom of the cross bar for an ink stamp. Decode ink stamp: home page>cameras>model history>manifacturing code link.

disemjig: 1916-1917 3x4 should say "division" also this should not have gray "painted" hardware but grey oxidized patinaed silver hardware.
joecool13: 1958 Yours might not have a date code, if it does post it here....

Gandalf: Yes, it says Folmer & Schwing Division. The hardware may be patinated gray from age, but it is surprisingly uniform. Only brass shows through on the wear areas, with no original silver tone that I can find anywhere. On close examination it does not look like paint. The gray on the back springs is clearly paint; it has chipped at the edges to reveal brass. What kind of focusing scales were originally on these cameras? mine has what looks like a factory index mark on the foot of the front standard, but the scales on the bed are clearly added by a user. They are small ivory plates, one rather neatly done with a series of lines on it, and the other is kinda crude with no markings. There are no distances marked, but only the lines. I see no evidence of an earlier scale, but the holes may be covered by these two plates. Thanks |
