I recently purchased a Pacemaker Speed with side rangefinder (Kalart) that otherwise looks like a top rangefinder model. The serial number is 922691. I'm guessing it is a late '54 or early '55. Conformation or more accurate date would be appreciated.
I picked up a very helpful reprint of "45" PACEMAKER SPEED & CROWN GRAPHIC from http://www.craigcamera.com (Craig Camera). It is a reprint of the Graphic factory repair manual for Pacemaker side rangefinder series. Other reprint repair manuals are available.

there's a corrolary to Murphy's law that says "When the data doesn't fit the hypothesys, bury the data"

According to the book, your camera was made sometime after 5/25/56. Not sure how much after. Obviously this doesn't fit the known fact that top rangefinders came out in '55 and side rangefinders were immediately eliminated. Therefore you must destroy your camera immediately!!! .

Actually there were marketing plans a foot about then that sold a side rangefinder without an fresnel lens and an Optar lens for less than the standard camera--something around $200

As I have become more familuar with these cameras and minor glitches I repaired on this one leads me to believe that the bed is a replacement not an origional.
