I've just aquired an Anniversary Speed Graphic - my other graphics have been Pacemaker Crowns - and I have a couple of questions.
I have the Graphic back - should this have a fresnel, or was that a later, Pacemaker, innovation?
The focal plane shutter works but squeals. Should I lubricate it with something, and if so, what? Or should I just continue to work it to loosen it up?
Serial number is 340514 - does anyone know what year it was made.
Thanks,
john |

Dont think the frensel was a std item on the Anniversary model, assume it could have been a factory installation upon request! The only lube points on Graflex or Graphics would be gears and roller bushings, and the back must be removed to get at them! I use automotive multi-purpose grease, applied with a toothpick, and force it into the bushings as much as I can, then wind the the curtain several times, and release it!For the gears you can reach, a couple of spots of grease where gears mesh, will do the trick, but hard to get at without dis-assembly on most models!! And remember>>To much grease,is worse than no grease at all<

And I use Lubriplate or white lithium on the gears, very light coat, and on the bushings I use TRI FLOW, a very light machine oil with Teflon made for delicate mechanisms. I put it in a pin oiler and apply two drops about the size of a streight pin head, then operate the curtain through out its range, wait 5 minutes and add two more and operate it again. This procedure allows the oil/teflon to absorb into the bushing.
And as Bret says too much will casuse more problems than its worth.
