I'm considering buying a Wollensak 381mm Tele-Raptar in barrel. What shutter size will I need? Will an Ilex #3 do the trick?
thanks,
Bob

I don't know the specs, but these came in a #3 Alphax originally.

I got a 210mm f4.5 Raptar in an Alphax shutter along with a Graphic View II I bought and my 15" Wollensack Tele screws right into that shutter. I can't find that it says "#3" on the shutter, so I can't confirm that it's a #3 Alphax, exactly, but that sounds right. The aperture scale is off when using this shutter for the tele, but after measuring the iris openings it seems that the f4.5 aperture on the shutter corresponds pretty closely to the f5.6 aperture on the tele's barrel (and the Alphax f5.6 to the barrel's f8, etc, etc), so it's easy enough to just remember that the scale is one stop off. These f stops may not be exact, but they're more accurate than the shutter speeds
I can confirm that the opening for the lens in my #4 Ilex (from a 12" Commercial Ektar) is too big for the 15" Tele, but not by too much, and the #3 Ilex (from an 8 1/2" Comm Ektar) is too small.
Hope this helps.
AJ

Kodak Ektar's used different, larger, threads on their lens than other manifacturers using the same shutter.
