I bought a 152mm Kodak Ektar lens in Supermatic - X shutter. Speeds are good and aperature is from f 4.5 to 45. the serial number on the Kodak Ektar lens is RR signifying it was made in 1955. I guess the thread diameter of around 1.6" on the front elemtnt
My questions is this: While the shutter speeds work quite well, the bi-post connections did not seem to make connection. I unscrewed the front element and there is basically nothing there where the "guts" are for the flash syncronization. If I were to buy a copal shutter for this lens, what would it be? Can I use a Wollensak shutter or Rapax shutter?
Thanks!
Vernon

The Bi-Post shutters that I am familiar with have a thin flat conductor attached to each, one goes 1/3 to 1/2 the way around the shutter to the trip lever area to a switch and the to the case. Usual cause of failure is corrision as in coper oxidation. Are you saying that with the top cover removed there is nothing connected to the post?

the Super matic X really is nothing more than a Flash Supermatic with the entire time delay gear train removed.
It really does look empty over there! When I first opened up a super matic X, I exclaimed, "There's an empty warehouse in here!
But 4PSS is right, follow the copper strips around and clean where they make contact.

| You can't use a Copal shutter without a lot of expensive machining. Modern shutter sizes (00, no longer made; 0 ; 1 ; 2, no longer made; 3) have nothing in common with the same numbers applied to US-made shutters of the forties.
I'm sorry I don't know what size shutter the lens takes, but if you can get another supermatic/flash supermatic or grafex/rapax [they are the same, only the faceplate differs] of the same size you're home free.
I hesitate to sic you on him, but if no one else can tell you exactly what to shop for you might ask Steve Grimes (www.skgrimes.com).
Cheers,
