I've seen it mentioned recently (in this forum?) that scratches on lenses can be blacked-out with ink or paint to lessen (or nullify?) their effect... does anyone out there know if this works and, if so, how it's done? What kind of ink/paint do you use? I assume some of it would get on parts of the glass that you don't want to black-out - can you just wipe off the excess?
I have a lens I'd like to try this on.
Thanks very much. |

I've never heard it done with scratches, but have heared it done with chip. A friend of mine had a 14" comerical ektar with a chunk out of the front element about the size of a pencil eraser. He carefully covered the interior of the crater with black laquer--the sheen doesn't matter since you are rying to ke stray light rays out. he claimed it didn't hinde the performance of the lens, but when i had a bit of mud on a sky filter in front of my lens it made a huge difference. Like they say in retail--location locationlocation
