The shots I have taken with lens, do not seem to be in tight focus. The shots are landscape shots, taken at f11 or f16.
The question I have, being a 90mm, f6.8, would it make any difference to shoot with a more open aperture? |

| With this lens off the Ground Glass... the last several shots I used a 10x loop. |

What tripod? What head? Leaf shutter or Focal Plane shutter?

Yep on a very sturdy tripod, Bogan 3046... leaf shutter...
What Head?
The one that is lose on the shoulders, but ur talking about something else.. give me a clue please. 
Ya.. know.. being a wide angle, do I need to fire with a cable release?
No sign of fingers in pictures though, and its at a minimum of f16 @ 125, somethings f11 @ 250. |

That doodad that is attached to the top of the tripod that the camera mounts to.

I always use a cable release when shooting from a tripod.

Hey peter
any time you are at a slow shutter speed ( thats anything
slower a 125th) you should us a cable to tip it
Ries Tripod I was looking at there sit they say that wood
does not have any VIBRATION to it as does a tube tipe do!
as I have never thought it BUT out doing water fall shots
shots some at slow shutter speed they are not SHARP using
a Bogen 3020! as the air mite have a sonicwave in from the
water fall thrugh the air make the Bogen have a VIBRATION???!!!
so how I have 5 Bogens that I will stop using out side!!
less likey to get VIBRATION indoors so I will still us then
But for out doors I am going to use one of my wooden one
I have a Craig Thalhammer wood & metal and now I have
a Ries that I just got on Friday
Craig Thalhammer is said to be realy good BUT now that I
have the Ries its a 100% better than that Craig Thalhammer
and that just in the wood then the Craig Thalhammer has metal
tubes for the down tubes
now as to the heads I do like & use the Bogen 3047 head
on my tripods
Now as to the Head lose on the shoulders I don't see any help
that we can do! LOL LOL!! |

Head? Tripod head, not the old gray one. I've had problems with heads coming just a little bit loose from the platform, have learned to check them and, if the tripod platform has 'em, the locking screws that bear on the head's base.
The 90/6.8 Wolly can be focused at f/6.8, should be shot stopped down. Wolly says at least to f/11, I think -- have never had one so can't say for sure -- at least to f/16.
FWIW, I never got a sharp shot with the 65/6.8 Wolly I used to have. Other folks here have said good things about theirs, so I prob'ly had a bad 'un. If you get sharp shots with your other lenses, your 90/6.8 may be a bad 'un too.
I always blame the operator -- that's me -- first when a lens gives me poor results, always try again and check hard to make sure that I'm doing what I should be. Every once in a while the problem is the lens, though. |

Were to begin... oh yeah.. tighten up shoulder separator.. CLASSIC! ... ah that feels better.
Next..
One of the first things I checked to be sure it was tight. Tripod head is large, and locked in place, also I have a large 3/16" rubber 'washer' that's about 1.5" across, that I made to make a tight grip. Got to use a pair of pliers to get the dang thing off, when I want to set the speed down on the table.

hmm.. no water around here where I was shooting for miles, but maybe it's the Vortexes.. (Sedona AZ stuff)

When I was looking into buying this off e-bay I checked out info, and I recall there was something said to that effect... but forgot about it. Then checking shooting notes, noticed it was all at small apertures. That's why the question, I looked again about the lens, but could find nothing that substantiated that until you mentioned it.
Ok.. I got to order some more film.. and will do a test with the 90mm at different f stops and see if that's it.

hey pet
with any lens wide open is to focuss the sharpest aperture
is 3 stops down from wide open
BUT not the best DOF the smalls apertures give the best DOF
and hyper focuss is better
with LF you need a DOF / hyper focuss chart Now for that go to

Yes, I'm aware of DOF, and always try to use it, where necessary for shot composition, but never knew of the term 'hyperfocal distance', or it's use.

With my old classic manual 35mm Nikon's, (which moan for attention of late, haven't even finished the roll I started in spring last year) all one had to do was press a button on the lens, if there was a question about DOF.
It's all a bit different with the speed...
The term, legitimate photography, comes to mind, especially as we learn skills in developing color negatives. |

hey pet
you can do a download and then make up hand wheels for your lens
so you can take them with you
you can set up the wheel how you like then. print 2
I cut it & LAMINAT them a thum tack in the center
them I am good to go |
