I'm hoping I have some neighbors that read these posts...
I'm looking for any swaps, shows, flea markets in NYC or the immediate area. Especially if they're regularly recurring.
A guy at Adorama mentioned one in Wayne (I think) New Jersey every 1st (?) or 2nd Sunday of the month. Are any of you familiar with this one?
The perfect thing for me would be some online listing or bulletin board that tracks such things. Or maybe Camera Shopper? Shutterbug?
Even the name of your favorite overstuffed and undershopped camera store in NYC would be helpful. I already know and love Lens and Repro, Photo Gizmo and Panorama Camera Center.
thanks!

| The Wayne show is the second Sunday of each month. It has fallen off a lot, as have most, if not all, flea markets.
The dealers who went there (fewer go each month) are literally dying. Many of them were quite old.
Also, many of them have difficulty procuring stock because more people know to send used gear to eBay; I can get more on eBay than from a dealer who has to buy below market in order to be able to sell at market. Dealers who have stock are sending more of it to eBay because eBay costs less in time (no day lost), money (no table charge), and offers a better chance to move the goods quickly.
Wayne isn't a total loss yet. This month I bought a cruddy shutter-less diaphragm-less 6" Metrogon that's making one of my friends happy and I was offered a 53/4.5 Biogon for $600. Had to pass on the Biogon, lack of funds, but even seeing it was nice.
Cheers,
Dan |

Same goes for shows in the Philada. area. The Ft. Washington show has had little of interest for me, and the Trevose show seems to be defunct. Wayne NJ is hit-or-miss (well, I guess they all are, but the odds seemed better even as recently as three-four years ago), and it's a long drive from e. PA.
Glad I got together the essentials of my kit when I did....

The Photographic Historical Society of New England has shows in the fall and spring at the High School in Waltham, Massachusetts. They have a good number of dealers in many types of cameras and vintage prints. Might be worth the trip for you.

The PHSNE camera shows have changed locations and dates. The shows are now held at the Armenian Cultural and Educational Center in Watertown, Massachusetts not too far from Boston. The dates of the next fall show is November 19 and 20. It's a great place to see and buy old camera stuff and images.

Here's the Shutterbug list:

Our big show in Huntsville in October each year seems to be on the way out. It is less than half the size it was just 2-3 years ago. |

The Photographic Historical Society of New Englands photographica shows have changed locations again. They are now located at the Americal Civic Center, 467 Main St, Wakefield, Massachusetts. The spring show is going to be on April 30 & May 1, 2011. Always a good selection of vintage cameras, equipment, photographs and goodies there including Graflex cameras.

The Dallas/Ft. Worth shows I use to attend died out about ten years ago. I do miss 'em! Made some hellacious deals there. Cheaper than Ebay back thern. |
