Hi all 23 Century fans
I have just gotten a hold 2 late model Century one is a C7B Graflex Manufacturing Codes making it a Mar. 1967 the other is a L8B making it a Nov. 1968.
the thing is that they do not have the right lens on them! As one has a Carl Zeiss Tessar f3.5 100mm in a Graflex {XL} Synchro-Compur shutter off of a XL Graflex AND the lens board has been cut out to fit that lens & its not centered so I know that some one has done it!! and the other one has a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenotar f2.8/80mm that has also been put in to the lens board not by a Pro. Camera reparman!
So what would have been the right lens in 67 & 68??? Does any one have a late brochure that mite say what lens would have been the normal ones that they come out with?

Banjo,
The 80mm Xenotar (nice hunk of glass for street shooting) in a Synchro-Compur T-1/400 f:2.8-f:22 shutter was offered by Graflex for the Century body.
The focusing scales for the 80mm lens are numbers 30882-35 through 39. Hope that you got the right scale with the lens

hey tsgrimm
I was wondering about the focusing scales!! the 67 that has the 80mm Xenotar does
have 30817- 3 with the 30882-35.
the 68 with also has 30817- 3 but with the 30882-36 it had the Tessar f3.5 100mm.
but I know that they both had been remounted !!
I have been looking for a chart that has the focusing scales for the different lens!!
I know that I had seen one some where But I can't find it any where right now!!
as only three of my minty 23 have the lens that they came with when they were NEW!!
so does any one have a chart OR know where I can find it here on the net!?!?

I have a Jan. 68 Century myself. In my 1965-66 (approx.) catalog they list the 101mm Graflar (which is a Rodenstock triplet, not a Wollensak),
the 100mm F/3.5 Tessar, or the 80mm F/2.8 Xenotar. Mine came with the 100mm Tessar. I also have a smaller fold out catalog with a March 68 date that lists the normals as once again the Rodenstock built 101 Graflar, the 100mm Tessar, and the 80mm F/2.8 Rodenstock Heligon. The full range of lenses listed for use with the Century are the 47mm and 65mm Angulons, the aforementioned normal lenses, the 127mm and 135mm Optars (which were still manufactured by Wollensak), the 150mm F/4.5 Xenar, and the Wollensak built 202mm F/5.6 Telephoto. The catalog also say the E6C rangefinder was available for the 80-150mm lenses factory fitted on Century Graphic. Another interesting tidbit from the small 68 Catalog is that you could get the 1000 speed Super Graphic shutter fitted to the XL's or the Century Graphic. It does not list which lens it would have had. On the Super graphics it was mounted with a 135mm F/4.5 Rodenstock Optar. Just another reason to regret the demise of Graflex because of the loss of special services available. |
