I was looking at the image galleries on an italian newspaper site and there was a gallery dedicated to men on the other side of camera.

I began "to scroll" that gallery and the third image was

http://www.repubblica.it/2008/08/olimpiadi/gallerie/varie-varie/fotografi/3.html

the camera is surely a pre 1955 Pacemaker, but I can't understand if it is a Speed or a Crown.

Nothing to say but

WHAT A LONG SERVICE LIFE!!

Hello Gully
The Camera is a Pacemaker, the lens is an Aero Ektar and the photographer is David Burnett (Free Lance and New York Times)
I'm surprise that the new paper do not give the name ...

Well! First the newspaper is italian and in Italy very few persons not interested in photography know who Burnett is and, second, it is a generic gallery dedicated to the thousands of photograpers ad Beijing and in such case Burnett is one of the many.

For what?

Your surprise is absolutely justified from a US point of view, from the point of view of an italian newspaper, and in that context, it isn't surprising the newspaper choose not to give the name; assuming that the person who screened the pictures knows who Burnett is and what a Graflex is!

Hello,

Didn't Mr. Burnett use the same camera four years ago for the Olympics?

Now that you asked for it, somewhere in a foggy recess of my mind, I remember a topic/discussion/article in the net about a photo-reporter who wanted to use e very dated camera at Olympics.
But I can't remember more, either where I read it or the Olympics were at Athens, Sidney or even Atlanta.

I GOT IT!

It wasn't Olympics!

Mr. Burnett covered the John Edwards' Presidential Campaign, and Time magazine published the photos made with his Pacemaker Speed Graphic (yes it is a Speed!).

Hello,

I did a google search on David Burnett and 2004 and it seems that Mr. Burnett did indeed use his 4x5 Speed Graphic to cover both the Kerry presidential campaign and the Athens Olympics in 2004! Anyone interested can easily find info on the web of the photographer and his work. Have to go now, I suddenly find that I have an urge to shoot some film now.
