First of all, I assume you bought the solenoid for a reason. The number one reason for buying a solenoid is to add flash sync to a shutter that has none. You have to mount the solenoid on your lensboard in such a way as to attach the linkage of the solenoid to the shutter trip lever. Then, you need a flash unit that has a solenoid receptacle and a button for activating the solenoid. You connect a sync cord from the flash receptacle to the terminals on the solenoid. You adjust the tension on the solenoid by means of a knurled knob at the "plunger" end of the solenoid and by a screw at the butt end until the shutter trips when you push the button on your flash's battery case. With careful adjustment, you can then get the flash to ignite the flash bulb approximately 20ms before the shutter is wide open, as the solenoid trips the shutter. Have fun. Fred. |
