Does anyone have any info on the focal plane shutter which Graflex produced for 8x10?

I wanted to know which 8x10 cameras could use the focal-plane shutter without any modifications. Since this is a Graflex item, is there any literature available?
Does anyone have any experience using this
shutter on an 8x10 camera? Thanks.

I have yet to hear of anyone actually using an 8x10 FP shutter. And I have no idea if there's any documentation about what cameras it may fit? And who knows if they made different models?

If you have the shutter, the best bet would be to measure the length/width of the back. Then measure the spacing of the pins. With that info poeple could say whether or not the back might fit a particular camera.

I've seen backs that varied by only an eigth of an inch or so, and pin spacing of less than that. Apparently there are no standards when it comes to the old 8x10's...

Wow, two years later

I hate to admit this, but I do own one now. It's packed away in a box awaiting the time I need to completely refurbish it to try it out as it was very stiff when I got it and not fully functional...

To partially answer the first question now: It fits the Century Universal very nicely

It should also fit the Kodak 2D and many other cameras with a somewhat "standard" back with 11 1/2 inch dimensions and pin spacing of ~10 1/4 (slightly more).

I could supply not-so-good pics if needed. It would help to know exactly what you're looking for in the pics? And it might take me some time as I'm really tied up over here and haven't been good at getting around to things. Let me know and I'll try...

I've noticed that there are several versions of the 8x10 unit. So, I'm trying to collect info. and photos to document age, construction, manufacturer, etc.

The 1921 Graflex and Graphic Cameras catalogue lists the Focal Plane Shutter, on page 39, as being available for 5x7, 6.5x8.5 and 8x10. The only cameras mentioned are the Eastman View Cameras.

If anyone else has any more printed information, please list it here.

I've got a whole plate fp shutter designed to fit on the RB cycle Graphic, they made this based on the auto graflex shutter and were fitted to both RB Cycles and Century cameras.

the fun part about this one is it's the earlier two piece shutter

I know i'm a bit late on this thread, but wanted to add a tid bit to this discussion!
I fabricated (2) 4x5 aux focal plane shutters! I cut down two (body only) Pacemaker bodies and am going to adapt (1) to the back of one of my Crown View cameras, the other was adapted to a 4x5 Toyo View for a fellow in Los Angeles! He said his works great!
Used the controls and the curtains from the Pace of coarse, and they are both tripped with the trip slide switch!

Dear Bert, inspirated to the first Folmer ans Schwing product, I made too an adaptable focal plane shutter for my GVII.

I used a canibalised Pre-anniversary and a Graflok back for that.

I confirm that his works great.

I also used Graflok backs, tried several ways to release the shutter on the first one, but the slide switch was the simplest , and required nothing be added to or modified drastically to the mechanism except the switch locking feature!
