It works the same with all old cameras. It's a disease, I tells ya!
| I dunno, Glenn. With me its kind of self-limiting. I must be weird.
I can do what I want with just two 2x3 Graphics, one short one without FPS and one long one with. They're useful tools but until I break one good I don't need more of 'em.
As soon as I realized what I was getting into I stopped acquiring Ensign Selfixes. They offered no advantage over my Graflexes and weren't free.
Same thing happened with Retinas. I bought a couple some years ago out of nostalgia for my cycling days, then realized they offered nothing my Nikons did except compactness and smooth contours. Those attributes are important in a cycling camera, but these days I walk. And my FG is nicer to use.
Got a couple of fixed-lens Japanese 35 mm RF cameras to find out why the classic (they say) camera nuts on photo.net were so enthusiastic about them. Quickly found that the cameras brought nothing to my party and stopped.
Cheers,

Why did I have 8 Canon's and 4 Nikon's when I worked on magazines, the answer 'back-up'.Each Graphic I have is slightly different,if Im working with 2x3 I might choose the Speed one day, then think darn it I'll take the Crown, being lighter.
I don't have a car,so lugging them around on public transport makes you think before leaving home.
Then it's the lens,do I need 'wide angle'(101mm) and get too much in the frame,or go for the 3x4 camera with a 127mm or the 135mm.
Then the back size Im using, from 6x6 to 6x8.I plan ahead which is the best.
...and what if something goes wrong with a Graphic (God Forbid) and only had one.Working in publishing taught me a lesson, never rely on one camera. That applies to electronic flash as well. |

| Thanks very much for the explanation. For an instant I had a vision of you as a many-eyed many-handed sort of an Indian deity, holding four Graphics ... |

That only happens in Hollywood when they cannot afford the 'extras' in the background at so say Premiere's in certain movies.Get one guy to hold up several cameras..
Which reminds me,why does the prop dept always extend the bellows right out?
Please Hollywood get it right,or ask the experts here. |

Thanks for all the responses aimed at showing support for my condition. As a result of all the heartfelt and comforting thoughts from members of this forum I now beleive I don't have a problem.
You see I'm not like you guys.
I can stop any time I want.
After all I still hold down a full time job. Although the demands of work are starting to impinge on time I could spend Graflexing.
I'm never late on paying my mortgage. Come to think of it if I sell this house I could get something a little smaller and use the extra cash for.....
My Graflex - did I write Graflex I meant to write wife - doesn't care. I heard her on the phone with my brother talking about my cameras and then something about intervention.
Its not like I have to hide my passion. Just because I bought a Crown the other day and had it shipped to the office doesn't mean anything. Does it?

Don't worry,Fro,at least you are keeping the great name of Graphic alive, and how many you collect doesn't matter:It's the thought that counts, and they are going to a good home.Look upon it as a 'rescue abode'for the greatest camera ever made.
Ah,I see you mentioned Richmond, here in the Mother country Im living 10 minutes from Queen Elizabeth I great Palace (that was) where she lived and died, next to the River Thames,in Surrey.
All that's left now is the great arch where she rode through on Richmond Green.Still very much Crown property to this day.
Anyone visiting London should make a trip there with the camera, just to walk through the gate down towards the river.A great feeling of history hits you. |
