Hi!
I just picked up a strob 250, and the owner said something about other battery systems being usable with the flash -- particularly some sort of rechargeable adapter. Is this true?
If I do have to shell out $60-90 on n Eveready 497, how many flashes can I expect to get out of the unit? In other words, what's the battery use life like? Days? Months? Years?
Thanks, I really appreciate your help! |

I would think you should be able to get a couple of hundred flashes out of a pair of FRESH batteries.
But considering how many people buy these batteries, the ones you get could have been on the shelf for YEARS.
They did make a 110v adapter as well as a battery "conditioner" (know idea what that did) The adapter is very rare, but the schematic is available on ebay and the 'net.
Unless you can watch them being built, or find the factory specs for the battery (Ie: X volts @ Y amps) so that you test the batteries before hand, I think you'll have better luck with your $150 at any online poker site.

It appears that the 497 is still being manufactured. Read the following PDF and make your own judgement.
http://data.energizer.com/PDFs/497.pdf
Explore the website and in the industrial battery group you will find a lot of info.
