I knew I had a non-working Graflex 1000 shutter, cause the seller told me it was broken
But... After a long look, it seems to be in pretty good shape after all. The biggest problem I can find is at least one missing coil spring. So now I'm thinking it might be nice to have repaired?
Does anyone know (for certain) if Fred is still fixing these things? Or anything for that matter... I haven't heard any reports on Fred in quite a while now...
Yeah, I know "call him"... But it's been a long time since I've heard anything and I just hate to bother people, so I thought I'd get a first hand reply here, ummm, first...
If he's not doing it, anyone know of anybody else who would, and have the parts?
Thanks...

Hey Rich,
Many have told me that Fred is in fact back in the repair business, and one of the people over on one of the other message systems claims he just go his camera back from Fred and it was done great.

Hi Rich, just a little over a month and a half ago I sent a Graflex 1000 shutter out to Fred. The problem as Fred described it was with the slow-speed gear train, i.e. all speeds under 1/125th were firing at the same speed. When we discussed it on the phone, he grumbled a little about it and cursed whatever nameless,long-ago engineer who designed the 1000 shutter in the first place, but like a trooper he said to send it out to him and he would do what he could. It was returned to me about 3 weeks later in working order, with it's timing spec sheet included, all for $75.00. He told me he fixed it the first week he had it but then he kept it an extra week so that he could exercise it every day to make sure that the speeds remained consistent during that time.
So, yes, he's still in the Graflex 1000 repair business, but it would propably be best to give him a call first.
Hope this helps!
Jack. |

Thank you Gentlemen. More than I'd hoped for. He's still in business, and even an approximate charge
I would gladly pay that much to fix this one, and if he's willing, I'll even send him my working one for a standard CLA.
I'll try giving him a call and see what happens...
