I underswtand that the super series needed a recessed lenseboard to use a 90 mm lense and this was the max it would take. WHy is it necessary? is this just for the RF?

Normally when a recessed lens board is require, it is due to the fact the camera will not compress enough to allow infinity focus of the shorter lens, the recess allows the lens to sit farther back in the bellows, projecting it closer to the focal plane of the camera, the 90mm reaches infinity focus at approx 90mm from the focus plane.

Well, since you're in the Speed forum, I would suppose you're aksing about the Super Speed or Super Graphic...
In that case, you're not quite right. There never was a recessed lens board for the Supers, or Pacemakers for that matter. Just not enough room inside the front standard.
The Supers easily use a 90mm with the standard lens board. They also can use down to at least a 65mm, but with extra work as there is no rear focusing rail extension as in the Pacemakers. So focusing is done manually and even just placing the front standard in the right place is a chore. But the 65mm was sold for the Super series... Just no recessed lens boards...

thanks for your help - sorry i wrote to the wrong forum. I assumed that one just racked the lense back until it focussed. Guess this isnt the case, but i do thank you for this information about the wide lenses the Super G will take, the article i read on the cameraquest said:
Graflex literature is very definite about the Super handling the 65/6.8 Schneider Super Angulon on a flat board. Unfortunately, it is a very small mid 1950's lens of mediocre performance by today's standards. Modern 75 and 65 4x5 wides angle lenses are much larger, and won't mount on the Super, but many modern 90's will.
so I was trying to clarify.
