I own a Pacemaker Speed Graflex with a focal plane shutter.
I also own some shutterless lenses:

- Soligor 1:4.5/105
- Schneider Kreuznach Symmnar 1:5.6/135
- Rodenstock APO Ronar 1:9/240

Am I able to use them with the focal plane shutter, or is that no good idea? (because of the age of the camera?).
Thanks for aour help,
lg

The Soligor is probably an enlarging lens. I've shot with a number of enlarging lenses to see how well they'd do, they were consistently terrible at distance. But all were at least ok close up at magnifications below 1:1, so if you want to shoot, say, flowers close up try it.

The Symmar is a very fine taking lens, use it. I take it that it is is barrel, not in shutter.

The Apo Ronar is a process lens. Rodenstock's propaganda says that Apo Ronars are outstanding at distance -- better than lenses of telephoto design, they say -- and they have been spoken of very highly by users. Use it.

I assume your camera is 4x5. I don't think a 240 Apo Ronar will focus to infinity on a 2x3 Speed.

The age of the camera is irrelevant. One of the nice things about a Speed Graphic is that its focal plane shutter makes it possible to use lenses in barrel. Go shoot and be happy.

Cheers,

Dan

If the aperture on the lens work, they are fine (I don't know what coverage you will get or how they will preform). Set the focal plane shutter to "O". With the camera in either the vertical or horizonal position, trip the shutter=curtain travels across the film opening smoothly and latches upon completing and the wind key locks. IF YES shutter should be fine, mount lens on boards and shoot away. If NO service focal plane shutter before shooting away.
