Well, I finally found a nice portrait lens.
Any particular nags I should be aware of? The compound has a so-so reputation, I think.
and a place where I can get 4x5 CG lensboards (and have them drilled)?
I was actually wondering.. can I make one myself of wood? Or is it better to go with the standard boards?
thanks!
Marco

Yesterday I ordered two new boards with #0 for a Century from http://www.mpex.com ...did it by phone.
They say they'll have new boards drilled immediately and may ship this week. I also ordered minor accessories...they were happy to help and made suggestions.
I'll report on the turn-around time.
If your Graflex requires a flat board and not the stamped metal board, it'd be easy to make one with thin hardwood plywood that you can sometimes find at woodworking supply stores.
I'm about to make one using some thin maple I got from a luthier...very fancy grain... I'll have to give it a clear finish on the outside

The metal lens panels for the Pacemaker Graphics are easily found in Copal #0 and #1.
Depending on who you choose they nay be able to do a custom drilling to mount a oddball lens. |

thanks all,
I mailed mpex and Jim promptly answered they'd be able to drill a board for me.
Now I just have to wait until the lens gets here to measure the shutter width..
I never worked with a compound shutter before, so no idea what it looks like size-wise..
Marco
PS: this Graphic is leading to a real GPS (Graphic Purchasing Syndrome).. now a 210mm, lensboard, and up the list, a wide-angle, grafmatic back and rollfilm back.. oh, I love my Graphic

Those air-regulated Compound shutters are actually pretty good when they've been serviced. The seem to have very low shutter vibration. I have one on a 360/5.5 Tele-Xenar. If you hunt around on http://www.skgrimes.com, there's a good article on Compound shutters there. |
