I just got a beautiful example of the massive 15" f5.6 Tele-Optar pre-mounted on a Graflex metal lensboard between 3.5 and 3.75 inches square.
I bought this lens hoping it might work on my 3x4 Super D. I've read the Super D instructions about changing lenses, but my Super D seems to have a wooden lensboard (I believe my model is somewhere around 1944-45).
Question 1, is this lensboard removable? I've tried and can't get it to budge. Question 2, will the 15" Tele-Optar reach infinity on the 3x4 Super D? Do I need to buy a 4x5 Super D to make this work?
TIA! |

Question 1 answer: try this thread

Question 2 answer: probably. Once you get the existing lens board out use it as a template and make a new one and try the lens. Watch for mirror clearance of the rear of the lens when in the full retracted position. For tips on making lens boards use the search function for "lens board(s)" with "all the terms" selected.

Thanks for the information -- this is very helpful! I still haven't yet succeeded in getting the lensboard loose, but once I do, I intend to make several copies so I can mount any lenses I may use on the Super D.
I'll report back once I get the 15" Tele Optar mounted and functional. |
