The flash bracket on my camera is marked 'Heiland' with the number 65E-1. Could you please advise me what sort of flash assembly I need to 'fit 'this bracket

Heiland went from a thumblever shoe to a key and stud bracket to a double stud bracket in fairly quick order. I do know that the '70' series brackets were of the double stud type.
Is the lower hole on the bracket a keyslot by any chance?

It looks as if the flash unit should have two studs on it. The bracket has a lower hole which would take a stud that fits in then drops down to lock, ( key slot I suppose). The top fixing is a slot with a retaining clip. Does this help ??

Sounds like the Heiland double-stud mount, like the '70' and '75'. These mounts are a bit easier to find than the keyslot, as both the upper and lower are the same.
If it were me, I'd look for a 'Sol' or 'Heiland Sol' three-cell battery case and reflector, with the matching mounting rings to mate with the bracket. I can send some scans, if that'll help.
I'll bet that your camera has a 'Sol' solonoid on the lens board, if any.
The good news is that the Heiland flash gear isn't as rabidly sought as the Graflex equiptment by non-photographers.
I assume that you are trying to put together a WW II proper outfit?

Some scans would be a great help , I am new to the graflex scene !! I have been a military re-enactor for a long time, 2nd Infantry in fact, as a photographer/ correspondent, and have Argus and Kodak cameras. The solenoid on the lens board is marked HR in a circle? The camera is a little battered but will look good in a 'warzone' secenario!!
