This thing http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=17692&item=3829457583 has received 37 bids as of 1:05 EDT 7/28/04 AND it has only a spring back.

Who'd have thought it?

Cheers,

Dan

...but it's the late model spring back, with the removable hood and snazzy clips for your darkslides! I sure wish mine had one of those!

European prices are different. Best way to put it. I've bought a few lenses from Europe and paid a fraction of what the same thing was selling for on Ebay.com. OTOH I've seen stuff sell for what seems like outrageous prices. In the past stuff like Chevys and Fords sold for serious cash in Europe. Rarity mostly I guess. I'd guess US cameras are rarer in Europe then here. With the auction you posted it seems to be a few people bidding often. One guy placed a bid 12 times in an hour-) If they bought the same thing from the US they would have extra shipping. VAT to pay on the import. So that explains part of the price difference.

Now wierd stuff happens every place. I bought an Ansco 5x7 this week. The guy I outbid the next day bid 2.5 times [at least the auction is still going] what the one I bought went for.

European prices are different.

That must explain this. Read the description before clickling on the link.

THREE LENS MAGIC LANTERN

IN NEED OF SORTING OUT. TWO LENSES DO NOT WORK ON THE RACHETS

ONE OF THE LARGE LENSES IN THE BACK IS CRACKED, THERE ARE THREE BULBS
ONE WITH A HOLDER, ONLY ONE PLATE HOLDER, A BOX OF PLATES 3 THAT MOVE
ONE EXTRA LENS AND PART OF A PLATE HOLDER , I HAD A COUPLE OF PIECES OF
WOOD REPLACED BEHIND THE LENSES (THEY WERE MISSING) AND THE BODY CLEANED
UP. THE TUBE STICKING OUT OF THE FRONT HAS A CRACK ALONG EACH SIDE .THE
CHIMNEY ON TOP HAS EITHER BEEN REPAIRED OR MADE UP . IT ALSO LOOKS AS
THOUGH THERE WERE SHELVES INSIDE THESE ARE MISSING . THERE IS NO NAME ON
THE LANTERN JUST ON THE LENSES TRADE MARK JW.

I NEVER GOT AROUND TO POLISHING
THE LENSES THEY LOOK AS THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN VARNISHED OVER AT SOME
TIME , IT WAS FOUND DISASSEMBLED WITH 5 OTHER LANTERNS UNDER THE STAGE
IN A CHURCH HALL THAT WAS BEING DEMOLISHED ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO .TWO WERE
SOLD AT THE TIME THE OTHERS ARE LISTED ON EBAY THIS WEEK ALONG WITH SOME
OTHER BITS FOUND AT THE SAME TIME.

Speed/Crown Graphics are RARE in Europe.A 2x3 Speed went for around $900+ in the UK recently. That was the bare camera,no frills like holders etc.
Although a British Micro Press 5x4 went this week (on that famous site)for around $600+ with about 51 bids.

Graphics are all of a sudden becoming popular, even a major UK weekly photo mag last week had a 5 page article on the Graphic calling it "The American Dream"..
I should imagine if the camera was still being made, sales would shoot throu' the roof here in G.B.,now those interested must be ferreting around, where to buy one, even though it's secondhand..sorry,Pre-Owned (very PC).

Graphics are all of a sudden very COOL to own, which might mean, less of them around,or the price might go 'through the roof'...look at the price of Rolleiflexes.

We might in future,be sitting on a goldmine!
Fashions do change...forget digital,a Graphic can outstrip the lot of them, with quality & looks (I believe the word is cool).

Keep those Graphics WORKING!

My wife is planning a family trip on the Queen Mary II, maybe if I packed all of my Speeds instead of clothes, I could sell them over there and actually pay for the vacation!

I bought an incomplete Century Graphic when I lived in England 20 years ago. Graphics were like hens' teeth there, and it was very hard to find parts. I had to cobble parts together and improvise stuff, and I think I knew every photojunk dealer in the south of England. (I still have the camera, by the way, and I'm still on the learning curve.)

In contrast, there were hundreds of 4 x 5 MPPs being dumped in the 1980s, at silly prices-- UKP100-200 with lens, if I remember right. I never considered buying one, because I didn't know what an MPP was. Maybe I should have-- it's arguably the superior camera-- but good luck finding MPP parts in North America.

Les:mind you are not 'Hijacked'at sea bringing over those Graphics:just joking.I would have thought, bringing 'black boxes'on board would start alarm bells ringing throughout the shipping industry-like airlines!
Dave:You should have bought a Micro Press or two when you had the chance:Today they are like gold dust,completely,UN-OBTAINABLE in GB.(So is the Graphic).

Another silly auction item this morning - a black metal lens board for the Pacemaker series, two bids =75.00 with 45 minutes to go.

I think this one is worse. Can't you almost buy a whole camera for that price?

I don't know who is worse, the guy selling it, or the guy that actually purchased it, I just got a focus panel for one of my views yesterday on there for $26.00 with a fresnel and a broke piece of glass, at least I can fix that with no problem and finally complete my view 1.

I still love the guys who think they can get a grand for a crown!!!

I haven't been to Shuart's site for a while, but back when he quoted higher prices in his Shutterbug ads.

Its like cars. Building a car from spare parts costs more than buying one.

Cheers,

Dan

I think the guy buying it is worse-) The seller just put it out there and it ran.

I've almost given up looking for a tominon shutter because they seem to be selling for not much less then a press camera with a lens. I almost bid on a camera last week just to get the shutter.

I thought Stephen Shuart was out of the business. I can't find his site anymore.

That was the information I last heard. Family problems, out of business. That was some time ago.
