I bought an 8" Tele-Optar off of eBay and it arrived last night. Sadly, the rear elements have terrible separation so I am returning it (seller agreed, no problem).

The Tele-Optar was mounted in a Graflex shutter. The aperture scale was EXACLY the same as my 135mm f/4.7 Optar. Even though the max aperture of the lens is f/5.5, the shutter was marked f/4.7.

1. Is this how the 20cm 8" Tele-Optars came? It seems to me that f/8 on a 135mm lens is different than f/8 on a 20cm lens.

2. Could someone along the way have put the 20cm cells into a shutter they got from a 135mm Optar?

The filter size was strange. It was a 42.5mm screw-in and 1 3/4" slip-on.

Thanks!

Sounds like it was assembled from different parts, by a shade tree mechanic.

Well at least the seller agreed to take it back, sounds like a miss-match of various parts, the last lens that I had that was simular was not in a Graphex shutter..

fanything is fanything on any lens.
f is a function of the relationship of the aperture opening to focal length of the lens.
f1 on a 50mm focal length lens will have an aperture opening that is 50mm; f1 on a 24mm focal length lens will have a 24mm aperture opening. The aperture scales will be different.

1-3/4" is standard for Tele-Raptar and or Tele-Optar made by Wollensak. IT is also standard for the 162mm Optar and I imagine various other lenses. They use series VII accesories.
