I just aquired an 8" Tele Raptar for my 2x3's. Everything seems bueno, but when I removed the rear elements to clean the surfaces, I noticed the inner lock ring was loose allowing the element to rattle. I can get it reasonably snug by pressing it tight with two fingers, but would like to know if there is a proper method for securing these smooth and tapered rings and thus not wiping the lens unessesrily with the finger tips. The glass is very nice and I would hate to scratch it, but don't really want the elements vibrating on a future road trip and perhaps becoming separated either (nor when the shutter is released).
This is a neat lens.

I make use of several home brew items for tightening rings without slots. Small length of rubber hose, gum eraser, etc. Anything rubber that will fit the diameter of the ring. It may also touch the glass, so be sure it is absolutely clean and non abrasive. My favorite tool for this is a piece of automotive heater hose about 2 inches long.

Edit --- I believe Micro Tools has rubber tools for this.

The perfect tool awaits you at your local hardware store, in the plumbing area. Look for a nice assortment of soft rubber drain plugs; you can probably find one that is the right size to rest on the ring without touching the glass. I use these all the time.

Or a drinking glass top or bottom that just touches the ring to which you put some self ahesive closed cell weather strip foam rubber.

back of 8" tele very small, shooter glass, one for me, no, make that two for me and one for lens. Ummm, any more lenses need worked on around here???
