I just received my Speed graphic today and I have figured out how to use it pretty much with the help of this site and this forum. Ive actually made a few exposures already!
My only problem is that the Kalart side mount rangefinder is dim. The second image from the bottom lens is much dimmer than the image from the top lens. I can only see the secind image when aiming at a very strong light source. I know from my leica's that can be cause by dirty a dirty mirror or prism inside. Is this the case? Can the Kalart RF be opened for cleaning? How? |

Took the rangefinder apart and cleaned the prism but still I can't see the second image. The top one is just much brighter and over powers the second image....so I colored the top window with a black marker and now it works! I just can't use it in dim light. Works fine for out doors.
Does the focus spot mounted on the top have anything to do with this problem? |

Lucky you, you got a Focus spot, some will be envious.
The subject of weak or non functioning RF's have been covered many times. Click on "search" at the top of mopst pages. Use "Replacing rangefinder mirror" for the "key words" (that's what you need to do). Select "search for all the terms". Select "Speed graphic help" to limit the search area.(fourms) Hit the search button at the bottom of the search form. You will get all revelant post such as this one.

Just post the serial number in a new post on this section with "date question" or simular and the Secret Guardian of the treasured historical information will most likely give a responce.
