yes I've used liver of sulfur and the black you get from that is a true matte black rather than this odd, weird, wonderful, and expensive, since they dropped it for grey laquer in the 20s, patina.
I've done some nickel plating and have seen "dark chome" that
looks something relating to what they did, but could never
duplicate it. Frankly I'm stumped so I'm going to watch this thread
very closely!
