While the lens may be a Raptar, in order to get specific, I'd need to know what shtutter it's in.

For now I"ll keep it generic. You should find at least two levers. One will be near the cable relase socket, and the other won't. Usually the release lever is on the left when looking at the shutter and the cocking lever will be on the right around 2 o'clock.

To test the shutter, cock it. rotate the dial ( the outer rim with the shutter numbers on it) to a desired speed, tthen trip the shutter by moving the release lever. It should open and close.

The aperture or fstop is a third lever usually found below somewhere on the bottom half of the shutter and moves independantly of the shutter. Set this to the desired f stop.

If you wnat the lens to stay open to see what's you are focusing on, set the shutter to T. Cock and fire the shutter once, the shutter should stay open. Firing a second time will close it.

Some shutters have a mechanism to allow viewing of the image without changing the shutter speed but without knowing what shutter you have I can't say how to use it.
