Dayl -- buy both if you can!
You should be able to find the film on EBay (remember to ask sellers about expiration dates and whether the box has been opened)or through a variety of mail order joints that you can find in lots of magazines or on-line. I expect if you do a search from Yahoo on PolaPan 52 or PolaPan 54, you'll find lots of places to buy it. Its disadvantage is that you don't get a negative to print from. But once you're happy with the shot, you can switch to the rollfilm back. Or use the rollfilm back to begin with. I have the original rollfilm back for my camera and of course its negative is smaller than 4x5. The bigger rollfilm back you mentioned, assuming it fits (I never thought about using a bigger one) on the camera would obviously remedy that issue.

Mail order prices on the polaroid film seem to be $5 cheaper per box than what I can find in local camera shops.
