: : I'm shooting a 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 Century Graphic with a Kodak Ektar 101 mm F4.5 lens. Lens has synchro-rapid 800 shutter in perfect order. Camera dates from approximately 1953 by the lens.
: : I'm having problems with vignetting when holding a normal 52mm filter over lens during exposure. So I need to get the correct filters.
: : The lens has the seris filter adapter built into the front element. It has approximately 4 threads and is about 1 and 1/4th inches in diameter. Can anyone identify what seris filter I need? I'm thinking it may be a seris 3.
: : Any luck with KEH having these used?
: It uses Series Five (5) filters. I have the same lens. You'll also need a lens hood (also sereies 5), or a series 5 retainer to hold it in.
This is a puzzler. If you're having vignetting problems with a
52mm filter on the 101mm lens (and I don't quite understand how
this could happen---don't know about the Kodak lens, but the 101
Optar takes a 31.5mm series 6 slip-on ring, thus a 52mm filter
spans that lens with no problem). Maybe you're not holding the 52mm
filter tight up against the lens ring. If the Ektar lens is 1-1/4
in. across, then I suggest that you use a series 6 slip-on ring
with series 6 filters instead of the built-in threads on the Ektar.
Series 6 stuff is a whole lot easier to find than series 5. Try
camera shows in your area for these discontinued series filters,
adapter rings, shades, etc. Or a well-stocked camera store may have
a parts drawer where they toss all the old traded-in effluvia of
by-gone days (from the Graphics we use!). Here's a tip: the series
6 thread is 44mm. If you can find a 44-to-52 (or 44-49, or 44-55)
step-up ring (they DO exist--camera show!), you can use your 52mm
(or 49 or 55mm) filters with the series 6 slip-on ring of the
appropriate size for your Ektar 101. Henry
