: ok, the big silver shutter release button on the right
: side of the camera has decided not to spring back when
: depressed.

Happy New Year

I had the same problem. I ordered some DRY
Moly powder lube from the link below and
squirted a small amount into the opening
around the body release button. I also
dusted some around the plunger up on the
lens board.

Work the release several times.

This stuff will blow all over the place so
use a small amount on the tip of a small
screwdriver to place it where it is needed.

This was the lubricant of choice in the Navy
lab where I was stationed for cameras that
were going to be used in cold weather, where
oils or grease would stiffen up and jam the
works. It also frees up shutter or diaphragm
leaves that have stuck because oil has seeped
onto them.
