The Pacemaker Graphics were designed to allow the lens to be
focused beyond infinite in order to verify that the sharpest focus
was achieved. This was a change from the Anniversary models.
Consequently, when the track on your Crown is racked all the way
back (toward the body), the pointer on the track will normally be
anywhere from 1/16 to 1/8 inch past the infinity mark on the
distance scale on the bed. The infinity stops are set so that the
lens will focus on infinite based on either distance scale or the
rangefinder when everything is calibrated.
I recommend proceeding as follows:
1. Check that the pointer and the distance scale for the lens you're using are set up as indicated above.
2. Lock the track with the pointer and infinite mark aligned and then position the lens standard for best focus on an object at infinite on the ground glass. Lock the standard in place making sure it is square with the track. Use a small triangle as a guide.
3. Move the infinite stops against the lens standard and tighten the front set screws.
4. Put the standard back into the body, tighten the rear set screws, and then pull it out against the stops again. Recheck infinite focus with a distance object and see if the pointer and scale are in agreement. If not, a SMALL adjustment can be made to the scale by loosening the mounting screws. If I recall correctly, the pointer mounting holes are slotted to facilitate this adjustment.
5. Finally, touch up the rangefinder calibration, if needed, by turning the eccentric on the track with a penny. This assumes the rangefinder has been previously calibrated your lens.
When you are finished, either focusing on the ground glass or using the rangefinder will provide best focus at infinite and the pointer will align with the infinity mark on the bed scale.
Good luck.
