Simon,
General Advice, Learn (by playing with)the adjustments and locks for the camera.
1. FOCUS, the two knobs on the monorail, one usually uses the rear knob, the inner ring on this knob locks the focus to keep it from moving.
2. The two knobs on the side of near the botome of the lense board are for the RISING/FALLING FRONT, raises or lowers the lens from the center line.
3. The knobs at the top (front and back) allow TILT, tilting the lense or the film up and down.
4. The knob underneath the Front and Back lock the SWING (swing, "rotating" the lens view right and left)
5. SLIDE in additon the Front and Back Slide right and left to move the lense or film off the center line...
Now, once you learn the movement what do they do?
A few good books on the subject are.
CAMERA AND LENSE by Ansel Adams, VIEW CAMERA TECHNIQUE by Leslie Stroebel, STROEBEL'S VIEW CAMERA BASICS by Leslie Sroebel
On this site are some great pictures by Gerald Pierce showing some of the movements of the Graphic view cameras.
Regards,
Carl
