history of the Photographic Lens" that the convertable symmar
design is that of a dagor with the exception that one pair of
elements are air-spaced rather than cemented.
Unless they changed something, the cells are symmetrical and probably identical in focal lenght. Having the stop in front of the lens reduces chromatic aberation by limiting the amount of light entering at the edges of the lens.
So you've got Dr. Rudolf Kinslake, Ansel Adams, & Bob Stoddard voting for removing the front cell.
And you've got a bunch of confused people on ebay voting to remove the rear cell.
Personally I think this descision is obvious, but you may want a recount. :-)
