Unless these are later lenses from the 40s, the internal threads of these lenses may not be designed for a thread on filter or filter adapter.

I've seen filters from the 20s and 30s (pre 'series')and for the large format it seems that the photographer sold one of his children and bought square glass filters and either found slip on filter adapters or merely held them infront of the lens.

Series filters run from a Series IV for small Cine to Series VIII which is for lenses 2 1/16 to 2 5/8" dia. For a time there was a "special series" filter for larger lenses like the 10" WF ektar. This eventually became the Series 9.

Series 8 & 9 are hard to come by and expensive. push on adapters at this size are even harder to find.

Another option is Steve Grimes. He make a Pat. pending filter adapter for any size lens and any size threaded filter. The benefit of his adapter is that the rubber o-ring is the only part that touches your lens, so there aren't any paint scratches on the barrel. There is a link to his website elswhere on this site.
