I keep the tripod connection and the tripod snug, but not 'vice grip' tight. When inserting the film holder I usually put my right thumb on the lower corner of the body and with my index finger open thespring back as far as possible (which really isn't much like this.
This will usually allow me to put the film holder
in slightly more than half way, and past the pivot
point of the ground glass. I then close the
ground glass on the film holder. Now the holder
isn't fighting the spring to move the ground glass.
If it's a wood camera, little paste wax every 10
to 20 years helps too.
