Did you mean by "grand history" a history of the Company, and
therefor the evolution of the Speed Graphic?
or
How the Speed Graphic effected the way news was reported as opposed
to, say the Leica?
I know of at least one person who claims to have been writing the History of the Company for at least 12 years. I've heard that other people are writing too, but it seems to be to big to handle everything in one book.
I've done some research on the company and have a p a s sion for the early equipment. There are a few of us out there, but apparently few that frequent this list, as every time I bring up a question about cameras made before the Pre-Ann it usually goes unanswered.
Ed Reidel of Ottawa has, through original marketing material, discovered at least two new 'models' or specific modifications to Pacemaker cameras that were marketed as a different model.
It's unfortunate that the webmaster refuses to listen to requests to add to the site. I know I could write at least a web page on the history of Folmer & Schwing in the years from 1890-1908. Ed & I could add lots of data to the "what model is it" page. But our requests go unanswered. If I were more proficient at webhosting I'd set up a website myself and try to get them to link to it.
And then there's that fu@!#ng Profanity filter! A better webmaster could remove the word a s s and solve 99.999% of the errors. But will he? Noooooooo!!!
