When I was in the Navy as a Photographers Mate,
one of the cameras that kept us busy in the
repair shop was one that was cobbled up to take
photos of CRT instruments like oscilloscopes.
It was a 35mm design (a poor one) and it used
a Wollensak lens that is close if not the same
as what you describe.
