Bert -

I think he means the unexposed space between the individual negative.
My Graflex 22 does the same thing. The space would be determined by the
amount of film is wound between each exposure.
There seems to be a variance in that amount from one picture to another.
So although all the negatives are the same size (e.g. 6x6 for the 22 and 6x9 for the 23)
the width of the gap or unexposed film between successive exposures is different.
