What you have here, Bob, is the central unit of
the later model of Graflex's Extension Flash, or
what they sometimes called the "Side lighting
unit" - Cat. 2778. It was normally supplied with
a 15' extension cord and a clamp which screwed
into that hole in the bottom. Either a 5" or a 7"
reflector was mounted on the top [using an
identical black L shaped piece as that found on
the top of the normal flash unit].
The earlier model of this unit was made to use with only battery
circuits and had 2 outlets.
This later model had four outlets, 2 for battery
circuits and 2 for B-C [battery - capacitor]
circuits. The latter were connected in series
and, since they had their own power, could use
many more extensions than the earlier model.
