Yep, im new, so is the Hobby. Been doing alot of reading to figure this stuff out.

I was recently given a nice Graflex Crown Graphics Graflok camera, a nice Yashica MAT 24G, and the simple Ansco Shur Shot, all 120 film carriers.

Im very excited to get into it and start taking BW photos. I am into Hot rods and Classics and I hope to take this new effort to the car shows. Im also looking to get into developing my own film as well using a developing drum and dark bag.

Not too sure where to go with this...but I hope to find all the info here that I need, and maybe progress forward into newer and different aspects of the hobby.

Here is the collection I was fortunate to pick up.

Hello V. Metal,
You'll find a wealth of info on this website. Mike Butkus also has a scan of the complete official user's manual for the Pacemaker Crown and Speed at this link:
http://www.cameramanuals.org/prof_pdf/graphic_pacemaster_speed_crown.pdf
He asks for a contribution of $3, very reasonable.
Since you have a 2x3 Pacemaker Crown with Graflok back, it's worthwhile to look for a rollfilm holder. 2x3 sheet film is fiddly to use, expensive and only available in a few b&w emulsions. 120 rollfilm OTOH is still easy to find and comes in a good selection of color negative and b&w emulsions.
There always seem to be Graphic rollfilm holders for the 2x3 Graflok backs on the famous auction site. They usually go for $100 or so and come in 3 frame sizes: 6x9 cm (8 exp. to a roll), 6x7 (10 exp.) and 6x6 (12 exp.)
I have a Crown just like yours with all 3 rollfilm holders. It's a wonderful medium-format camera, and 6X9 negatives blow up to the common commercial 4x6 in. prints without cropping.

How right you are. I decided early on that roll film was the only way to go with my Century; 2x3 cut film was a royal PITA. BTW, don't forget color positive ("slide," transparency) film; IMO the best available is Fujichrome Provia 100. The problem is finding a lab that will process the E-6 chemistry; you may have to send it to Dwayne's in Kansas if you don't have a local lab.

Hello- I need help. I have just recently purchased a Crown Graflex Graphic and a barrell lens ( Kodak Aero 178MM ) Does this camera work with this lens. Is there a rear shutter on this camera - and if so how does it work with this lens

Thank-you for getting back to me

No.

No.

Since there isn't it doesn't.

One solution.

Buy a 4x5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic and then buy an adapter to mount the lens on it. Jo Lommen (http://www.xs4all.nl/~lommen9/) sells 'em, www.skgrimes.com can make one for you. I have no connection with either.

I don't believe front-mounting will work with this lens.

Before you spend any more money, read the FAQs on this site. Look before you leap again.

CR

Crown Graphic cameras do not have the rear shutter.
Barrel mounted lenses will not work without a rear shutter except with extremely slow emulsions where a lens cap can be used as a shutter for looooong (whole seconds not fractions of a second) exposures.
