I have just purchased Speed Graphic No 423503
Does anyone know what year it is?
How do you keep the focal plane shutter open so that you can focus on the ground glas? _________________ Tom from Carolina |

Tom,
The rear shutter on a Speed Graphic is a piece of rubberized fabric that can be placed in various positions. The first position is solid cloth with no opening. The second position is a full open slot which is several inches wide to allow focusing or long exposures. The rest of the openings are slits of various widths that will give shutter speeds from about 1/30 up to 1/1,000 second. If the shutter has been released with no tension, wind the shutter one position to get to "O" or the open position.
