First of all thanks a lot for the replies to my earlier post.

To be sure that I am doing everything right I have another question...

I set my infinity stops like that

A. I open the front cover...
B. I set the focusing wheels all the way back...(rails can't go back anymore)
C. I bring the lens onto the rails, focus to infinity using the GG and fix it.
D. Then I set the infinity stops (small tingies that fold and block lens movement) to that position.

Is that right? I am asking this because I am not sure that I always understand the posts and because of my lack of knowledge in that terminology...

Thanks in advance again...

Sounds good to me

With the earlier cameras, you'll run into some posts that suggest moving the rails an eigth of an inch or so forward before setting infinity. With the Super, leave them all the way back for use with the range finder.

The most important things are to focus critically on something at least a half mile away. A mile would be better. I like trees myself, only because that's all there is to focus on around here Then, lock the rails after you move them back. It's easy for them to move a little without noticing. Then, make sure the front standard is parallel with the back. After you lock the standard, measure it with a good ruler, one side then the other. The Super does allow for a bit of swing and you don't wnat that in your infinity stops.

Beyond that, what you've done is how you do it and it should work fine.

In my crowded neighborhood, it's hard to find things far enough away when working in the garage & setting infinity focus.

I decided on a blue sky day with big fluffy clouds, surely they must be at least a half mile away, so I've done that sometimes.

I imagine the moon might do the job, on a clear night, too.

Don't try it with the sun but any other astronomical body including the moon is useable as an object at infinity for our purposes.

My favorite "infinity" reference is the TV antenna up the street. It is maybe 3/4 of a mile away, and the straight finial is perfect against a blue sky to see if you really have the image spot on.

To see the antenna, I have to go the end of my steet and make my adjustments on the sidewalk. I do this all the time with all manner of RF cameras. The neighbors must think I am mad.
