I was considering mounting a 4x5 Graphic to a Polaroid mp-4 unit via the universal camera mount (which I currently do not have). Has anyone tried this? My concern is that the Graphic may be too large and/or heavy, as I think that mount was designed for smaller cameras (but do not know). If anyone has info., I would certainly like to know if this is a recipe for disaster, before acquiring the part. As always, any help would be appreciated.

If you have the MP-4, you could try it weight-wise temporaily by just hanging the Graphic on the head mechanism and see how it works.

I wish I could tell you from experience, but I never got the adapter for my MP-4 either... But, I do have the 8x10 head for my MP-4. From the looks and weight of the 8x10 head, I would have to say that the MP-4 would hold up a Speed or Crown very easily.

I had the same plans originally, but things change. I'd still like to get my hands on the adapter but it's not a priority now.

If you get it, let me know how well it works. And if you decide to get rid of the adapter later, let me know

Thanks for responding so quickly. As far as the size/weight issue, I have little doubt that the mp-4 unit itself would be fine. I was thinking of the camera mount-- primarily the small threaded end that screws into the camera's tripod socket. Whether, or not, that would present a problem was my worry.

Thanks also for the reply. I have never had the opportunity to see the mount/adapter in person-- only pics on the computer. Perhaps the camera mount part is much larger than I thought. As I mentioned before, I just don't want the threaded piece to snap off while camera is mounted/supported by it.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought of the tripod socket being vulnerable, but rather the threaded end of the adapter breaking away from the body of the adapter itself. Do you think that the socket would be more likely to be problematic? I inspected the camera and both sockets seem fine. If that (the socket), would be the potentially weak part of the connection, I think it might be worth a shot. The camera mount adapter may be a much more well-built item than I had thought. Thanks again for the help.
