My Crown evidently had the two-piece ground glass assembly, but the Ektalite is now missing, and the ground glass rattles around in its frame, making it difficult to focus accurately.
As the glass is chipped, I've ordered a replacement Satin Snow glass. I have two questions:
1) My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the glass portion of the two-piece assembly is thinner than standard ground glass, to allow for the Ektalite. Is the Satin Snow thicker? Or will it need to be shimmed out as well, to sit correctly in the frame?
2) Assuming I don't replace the Ektalite, does the smooth surface of the glass still face the back, as it would in the two-piece assembly? Or does it face the lens? I've heard suggestions that the latter is the case, but wanted to confirm.
Thanks,

Satin Snow for this camera is 2mm thick, which is about the same thickness as the orginal glass, if your not replacing the fresnel, you will need to shim the screen to compensate for the ektalite thickness, the ground side of the screen still faces the front of the camera and the smooth side faces the back of the camera.
