There's a slide located on the lower right side ("right" looking at the camera from the front) which is supposed to somehow transmit the movement of an actuating bracket located on the right bed rail. How is it supposed to work -- is the slide supposed to be connected somehow to the actuating bracket (like, is the bracket screwed into the slide?) Is the slide supposed to move forward and backward on its own as the actuating bracket and the bed move front and backwards whilst focusing? I can slide it foward with my fingers until it hits the actuating bracket, but when the bed is rolled back to close the camera, it stays back and doesn't come foward on its own when the camera is opened again -- so I don't see how the movement of the bed and actuating bracket can be transfered to the slide to the RF etc. |

One of two things has happened. 1). the set screw at the actuating arm to the mirror movement shaft has come loose and the arm no longer moves any thing-check by looking thru the rangefinder eye piece as you manually move the arm=split image should track movement; no or intermitten movement in split image=loose set screw. 2). Split image tracks arm movement=a spring inside the housing has come loose or is broken.
Repairs of these conditions have been covered at length before and I am not familuar enough with them to restate them. A search for Side Rangefinder (all the terms selected) or for kalart should turn up the posts, the repair tricks are 2 to 3 responces in usually.

Redjenny, but are we talking about a Top mounted Rangefinder ? I think yes, since the external plunger it's on the lower right side of the camera. Did you checked if there is the cam inside ? There is a cover under the top of the Speed Graphic.Cover is pulled down to insert the cams. Check if there is the cam. Probably there is not the cam in your camera. So the spring can't transmit the movement, through a column of balls or spacers in the tube, to the external plunger.
