The rangefinder on my recently acquired Pacemaker is not functioning,as there does`nt appear to be a double image to adjust. As a newbie,I am at a loss where to start fixing this. As far as I can see, the linkage seems ok altho I`m not certain.
Sorry if I have missed a cure in the forums. |

Do you have a top rangefinder or a Kalart side rangefinder. Quite different in mechanics...

Sorry about that. It`s side mounted. I had forgotten that the SP comes with either, presumably depending on date of manufacture. |

What's a "SP"? Must have missed that one.
The cover of the rangefinder comes off easily with the removal of the obvious outside surrounding screws. Once inside, you can then use the instruction manual provided on the main board to adjust your RF if everything is already connected. However, if you are not observing a second image, it sounds like (1) the linkage is not working, or (2) a mirror inside is too dim to show the image - something a lot of older cameras suffer with, or (3) someone may have disabled the RF in the past by intention or negligent repair attempts. This is a hard thing to diagnose from afar. |

Hi, Brian ----
If the linkage is moving the shaft, I would first check two things: on the bottom prism there is a tiny spring that can get out of place. It keeps the prism aimed. Second, check the upper mirror for diminished or completely missing semi-silver coating. These are very delicate and the coating can deteriorate. Worse yet, folks try to clean them and rub it off.

Many thanks for instructions re rangefinder. Will try these and get back on result.
Sorry about the abbreviation. It must have changed on its way across `the pond`! |
